In many cultures around the world, spiritual leaders are depicted with halos, or auras. The aura is the vibration surrounding every material object. Every atom, even our thoughts have vibrations. Everything on earth has an aura, whether it is living or not. Auras surrounding living things change with time, mood and health whilst auras around inanimate objects generally stay the same. Auras can be measured scientifically, using Kirlian photography. However, we can train ourselves to perceive them with our eyes. The level of a persons spiritual advancement can be seen from their aura. When you see a person with a bright, clean aura they are spiritually advanced, even if they are not aware of the fact. Christ and Buddha are two excellent examples of spiritually advanced people often depicted with bright auras. Darker or grey auras express bad intentions or ill feeling, despite how the person appears physically. By reading a persons aura, you can perceive a problematic area in the body before physical symptoms become evident. By consciously controlling your aura, you may be able to heal yourself. Auras can be seen, dowsed or felt. In order to see auras more clearly it is important to use our peripheral vision, as this is less damaged than the central part of our retina which has had years of exposure to light. As with a photograph, the longer the exposure, the clearer the image. Concentrating on the centre of a target object for a full one minute and then perceiving the target's aura with our peripheral vision is one of the most successful methods used to perceive auras. Many things can block an aura, such as a person's clothing and the environment. For example, if a woman was wearing a vibrant green dress and you perceived her with a pinkish aura would you be seeing the aura of the dress. As stated previously, inanimate objects project an unchanging aura We actually only see three colours. Other colours are created in our brain by averaging and recognising millions of different combinations of the three basic colours; red, green and blue. The colour red gives a turquoise aura, and turquoise gives a red aura. The same can be said for orange/blue, yellow/violet and green/pink. This also applies to any intermediate colours, for example a yellow-green colour gives a pink-violet aura.
In general, the more colourful, clean and bright the aura, the healthier and more spiritually advanced the person. Also, the more uniform the energy distribution in the aura, the healthier and more balanced the person. The aura surrounds the entire body, but the interpretation of colours below relates to the aura around the head only. Usually people have one or two dominating colours in their aura. These colours, (or their auric pairs), will most likely be their favourite colours.
Purple: Spirituality.
Blue: Balanced nervous system and existence.
Turquoise: Dynamic quality of being, highly energised, capable of projection and influencing. People with turquoise auras can do many things at once and are good organisers.
Green: Restful, modifying energy, healing ability. All natural healers should have this colour dominating their aura.
Yellow: Joy, freedom, freeing or releasing vital forces. A yellow halo around the head indicates high spiritual development, the signature of a spiritual teacher.
Orange: Inspiring, uplifting and absorbing. A sign of power. Orange can contribute to a yellow halo, which then becomes gold.
Red: Materialistic thoughts, thoughts about the physical body
Pink: Spiritual love. To obtain a clean pink, you need to mix the purple, (highest frequency we can perceive), with red, (the lowest). A pink aura indicates that the person has achieved a perfect balance between spiritual awareness and material existence. Most spiritually advanced people have not only a yellow halo around the head, but also a large pink aura.
Brown: Unsettling, distracting, materialistic, negating spirituality.
Grey: Dark thoughts. Sulphur: Pain or lack of ease, anger.
White: Serious disease or artificial stimulation (drugs). Several hours before death, the aura becomes white and increases in intensity.
Disease, artificial stimulation, fear, stress, anxiety, hatred, envy, jealousy or other negative thoughts and feelings are some of the things which can immediately reduce, muffle or distort your aura. This can result in a temporary increase in the auric energy. This is similar to the effect of your body raising the temperature during sickness. You need to read the aura to diagnose such a crisis. It is most likely that the colour of an aura increased in this way will be white.
For this exercise you require a few friends of each gender and a pendulum. This can be a crystal, a metal weight or something as simple as a ring on a piece of string.
1) Place the pendulum over a friends hand and note:
a) whether it starts spinning clockwise, anti-clockwise or back and forth.
b) Any differences between male and female.
c) At what height above the hand the pendulum starts to move.
2) Close your eyes and repeat the exercise asking your friends to make note of any differences.
To experience the energy in your hands, try this exercise.
1) Sit comfortably with both feet on the ground. Let your arms hang free, then place your hands so that the palms face each other. Bring your palms as close together as you can without them touching.
2) Move your palms outwards to about two inches apart. Slowly, bring them back to their original position.
3) Move your palms out again, to about four inches apart. Slowly return to their original position.
4) Repeat, this time separating your palms by about six inches. Keep your movements slow and steady.
5) Now separate your palms until they are about eight inches apart. This time, do not move them back immediately. Instead, pause when they are six inches, four inches and two inches apart.
Some people can feel the energy in their palms. Most people feel pressure, and a sense of bounciness building up in the space between their palms. Others may feel heat, cold and/or tingling.
You need a partner for this exercise.
1) Have your partner stand across the room from you with their eyes closed.
2) Move towards them with your palms facing them.
3) Note at what distance you feel something in your hands.
4) Have your partner say when they feel something.
As a variation on the above exercise, approach your partner at different levels, (e.g. Legs, abdomen, chest or head). See if the feeling is different, or if your partner can detect the your approach.
Practice seeing auras using this exercise. Good conditions are important not only to see the aura better, but also to gain confidence about what you see.
1) Situate the person in front of a very softly illuminated plain white background. A colour background will change aura colours, so you need additional knowledge about combining colours.
2) Choose one spot to look at, the middle of the forehead is very good. This is the location of the brow Chakra or the "Third Eye".
3)Look at this spot for sixty seconds or longer
4) After about thirty seconds, look at the area surrounding the person with your peripheral vision, whilst still looking directly at the same spot. Continuing concentration is important. You should see that the background is brighter and has a different colour than the background further away. This is your own perception of the aura. The longer you concentrate, the better you will see it.
5) Advanced step. After concentrating long enough to see the aura, close your eyes. What your eyes were seeing before was result of normal light plus the vibration of the aura. When you close your eyes you eliminate the normal light. For a second or two you will see the aura only. Be prepared! You have only a second or two until your photosensitive cells stop vibrating and sending visual sensations to the brain. If you miss it, you will have to start concentrating again.
1. Stand about 1.5 m in front of a good size mirror. In the beginning it is best if the background behind you is plain white and there are no shadows. Illumination should be very soft and uniform.
2. Repeat the steps in the exercise above.
