Tara: Reeds Strings Skins (In Adversity)

Black Rat Music C.D £12.99

The publicity sheet accompanying this C.D says: "With it's interpretations of traditional songs and tunes TARA has a distinctly different sound, drawing deep on the traditions of Celtic culture, while also adding to that culture with the contribution of original songs and tune sets." What it fails to warn you is how addictive the sound is! I've had 'Matty Groves' relentlessly wailing around in my head for a few weeks now with no sign of a cease-fire. Whilst a combination of Planxty, Jethro Tull, Steeleye span and even echoes of the Eagles on 'true love knows no season', Tara still manage to remain original. A wide range of instruments including bodrhan, mandolin, guitar, whistles and haunting uillean pipes accompany the strong traditional vocals. I hear Taras' live set was spellbinding, unfortunately for live music lovers they have recently disbanded.
