Survival Kit

The contents and construction of a Survival Kit is a very personnal thing. There are several off the shelf models available includung the Walkers GO Pack and the Combat Survival Kit.

Typical Items for these packs include.

Basic Kit

Compass, Candle, Stormproof Matches, Flint & Steel, sewing Kit, Fishing Kit, snares, saw, knife/Scalpel Blade, safety pins, pencil, Water Purifying tablets, heleograph/Signaling Mirror, Survival bag, cooking container.

To these basic items should be added a pocket first aid kit consisting of a
Triangular Bandage, Medium Dressing, Micopore Tape, Assorted plasters, dressings, butterfly closures, Antiseptic Wipes, Painkillers.

A canteen or Bottled water and emergency food.

Although most of the above items would be usefull for any long term survival, most incidents in the UK involve people been traped over night by either by getting lost or a sudden change in the weather.

Minimum Kit

Therefore a sensible minimum kit for hiking would be a Survival Bag, First Aid Kit, matches, food and water.

If you survival plans are more longterm and involve leaving your home in a time or crisis, war or impending terrorist action (bugging-out) your kit should reflect this
an example a kit is given below. This one has a large Medical module as it belong to our group medic (former A&E Nurse & CMT)
