The two drugs both of which are needed to treat it are 'Pegylated interferon' which needs to be injected weekly. A 6 dose vial costs £100 and 'Ribavirin' which comes as a tablet which need to be taken twice daily (48 Tablets cost £125.00).

Both medicines are only available on prescription and would be too expensive to stock even if you could buy them as treatment can go from 3 months to a year. And the only way you know if its working is by blood tests. Lack of symptoms isn`t reliable as the disease can go into remission for years, not showing any symptoms.

The only good news is that 1 in 5 people recover from it without intervention.
